11 Heirloom Baby Gift Ideas To Treasure Forever
We found 11 Heirloom Baby Gift Ideas to treasure forever: Fine quality items that could become precious family heirlooms after baby is grown.
My sister and niece and I were talking about baby gifts we gave and/or received at our baby showers. My son was the only “child” in on our discussion, so naturally we embarrassed him a little with our memories of his baby shower. It just happened that my sister’s family was visiting us when my baby shower happened, so she brought a special gift for me to give my firstborn: a flannel blanket my grandma made for me when I was born. I talked about this gift before here, and how special it was to receive it for my baby.
He and his wife haven’t reached the age (maybe never will) of treasuring an old item they would never use, so I told my oldest girl g’little I would give it to her at her baby shower. Talk about a reaction! She’s 11 now and she gasped loudly and said, “If I ever have one!” In her mind, that’s an event so far in the future that it’s not worth talking about. But to me? It will seem like this talk occurred the day before her shower when it happens. And now it’s written here in permanent Times New Roman for her to come back and read when that newborn enters her life. She’ll have long forgotten that she couldn’t believe in a future as a mom.
That dinner-table conversation created the idea for a post about baby gifts that could become family heirlooms.

2. Personalized Blanket
Isn’t this personalized quilt absolutely heirloom-worthy? Little Lulu has the right idea for treasured keepsakes: a finely quilted blanket made from soft 100% cotton. Available with name and monogram, or with monogram only. You get to choose the color of fabric and thread combinations.
3. Macrame Swing
We love this macrame swing, with the padded seat and wooden beads low down where baby can play with them. The frame is safe-to-gnaw wood. The whole swing is made with eco-friendly products. And it helps that the design is so beautiful!
4. Wooden Teethers and Toys
This cute set of wooden teether toys is made of natural untreated and unsealed beech or maple wood. Wood has always had a satisfying appeal as a teething material for babies. Natural wood also has built in attributes that help sustain a healthy teething surface. Built in a small family owned shop in North Carolina.
5. Handmade Cuddle Toys
A friend of a friend makes these cuddle toy patterns, and I fell in love with them the second I saw them. I believe if you begged she would sew them for you, but you should expect to be generous if you ask that of her. Her work is beautiful, so it seems any price would be affordable.
6. Outfit Made With Quality Fabric
The durable qualities of linen ensure any outfit made of linen would qualify for a future heirloom.
When our oldest son was born, a friend gave him a handmade white romper with a row of sailboats on the smocking. It was definitely heirloom quality. I’ll have to see if I saved it in my box of baby clothes. I could give it to a future grandson…
7. Books With Toys To Match
Very Hungry Caterpillar Book by Eric Carl with one or more of many matching toys.
Here’s a few:
Jack In The Box; Shape Sorter Apple Set; and this Wooden Pull Toy
8. Timeless Book Sets
There are many, many book sets to choose from.
Beatrix Potter in a beautiful box.
Boxcar Children. Baby won’t appreciate them right away, but will grow into them.
These beautifully illustrated My Bible Friends Books.
9. Wicker Basket or Bassinet
We love this woven Moses basket on a wooden stand, with either lockable roller wheels or rocker arms.
10. Indestructible Tea Set
When Kim was little, her grandma gave all the girls cousins a china tea set for Christmas. It’s still in one piece, safe in the closet to get out and look at once in a while, or use for a party prop if it should happen to fit into the theme.
A tin tea set, available in Forest scenes or Fairy scenes, would be a great timeless baby gift. The child could play with it without fear of breakage, then put it away for her own children.
Or, along with number 7, give a Madeline book, cuddle doll and tin tea set. Reviews say the dishes are durable, although the box is made of composite material. Maybe we could cover it with clear contact paper to help preserve it.
11. Engraved Silver Baby Gifts
Sterling silver brush and comb set, or table service like spoon, fork and cup, make everlasting baby gifts. Either personalized or non-personalized, they become treasured items.
One of our baby’s got a silverware set as a baby gift, and I still get them out for the baby g’littles. They had long handles with mini size tines and spoon bowl. They worked so well for jars of baby food, along with the ease of inserting the tiny portions into ever-moving mouths without making a complete mess of their little faces.
