Thoughts Are Like Arrows Watercolor Card of the Week

Thoughts are like Arrows Watercolor Greeting Card by

I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong,
That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak,
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.

Thoughts, Songs, Arrows: the best meet their mark

I stand, thoughtfully gazing out the window.

I don’t really see the scene out there.  It’s chilly outside,

warm inside.  Inside my heart, I mean.  It’s warm.

The orange tree is just a blur of green, with faint hanging orbs.

The waterfall is a far away mountain, decorated with foliage and flowers, but I don’t see the individual plants.

It’s like staring at a 3D poster, and not seeing the image I’m looking for.

Because I’m not really looking for one image.

I’m seeing a collage of memories.

The central image is my brother, but even his picture is fuzzy… changing, morphing: from a small rowdy boy shooting pucks in the basement… to a handsome bridegroom… to a successful father of five… to a grandpa of two.

My best thoughts are headed his way.

Not only are thoughts like arrows, where the best meet the mark.

Men are like arrows, where the best meet the mark.

My Brother:  You are the best.  Happy Birthday.

I press toward the mark
for the prize of the high calling
of God in Christ Jesus.
